I was sitting here, reading in front of my computer (it was off). Then I remembered a project of mine which I wil enact in 21 hours - The Body Photographic. The piece is rather simple - I will spread my body across a mat of undeveloped, unexposed photo paper out in the open. The ambient light will then infuse as much of my body as possible into the paper. The piece will last 24 hours.
And, while reading here, I had the sudden sensation that in less than a day I would die. I would make myself inert, and assume the role of Death, and in 1 day rise again. Like an ancient samsara ritual, or some messianic spectre. Although I will breathe, it will be a True Death, and I will emerge transformed. The record of this process shall be my funerary mat, my own shroud, indicative of only light and time. I prostrate myself for you, objectify myself and my being. My silent body is the hammer that strikes at the base of our lives and society.
Just some thoughts. And less than a day to go.
